The Ars Goetia — the first book of the Lesser Key of Solomon — catalogues 72 spirits bound by King Solomon and describes their powers, ranks, and the conditions under which they can be called. It is the foundational text of Western ceremonial demonology and the basis of our Circle's Goetic practice.
This guide organizes the 72 spirits by domain so you can identify the correct spirit for your situation before contacting our Circle or attempting your own work.
The Structure of the Goetia
The 72 spirits are organized by rank — Kings, Dukes, Princes, Marquises, Earls, Knights, and Presidents. Rank determines the spirit's authority and the complexity of protocol required to call them. Kings require the most formal approach. Presidents are generally more accessible for beginning practitioners.
Never call a spirit simply because their name is recognizable. Call the spirit whose domain matches your need — that is how the Goetia works.

Are all 72 spirits equally accessible?
No. Rank matters. Kings require the most formal protocol and are best approached by experienced practitioners or through a professional Circle. Presidents and Dukes are generally more accessible.
Can I work with multiple spirits at once?
Not in the same ritual. Separate workings with a minimum of three days between them. Calling multiple spirits simultaneously without the knowledge to manage the working creates interference.
Do I need the physical sigil to call a spirit?
For serious Goetic work, yes. The sigil is the spirit's seal — their identifier in the ritual space. Working without it is like trying to reach someone without their contact information.
Why are there 72 specifically?
The number 72 appears throughout Kabbalistic tradition — 72 names of God, 72 angels. The Goetia's structure mirrors and inverts this, creating a parallel hierarchy of 72 infernal spirits bound beneath Solomon's authority.
